First night out!

So it’s the end of Day 1 for the Planet Tag and it’s found itself a new home for the night. At present, the Planet Tag resides within the DHL depot in Laindon, Essex.

Naturally, during it’s first day of travel I have been keeping an eye on the progress (probably a little too much) and have constantly been viewing the journey of the Planet Tag. I can only describe it’s initial departure as a dog chasing its own tail!

I’m not overly sure what I was expecting from the initial departure. However I spent most of my time watching the Smart Tag circle around my current location in the DHL van before finally making its way to Laindon.

I’ve detailed this to the right, should the video decide to work.

You can see in this clip (should it work) the location of the Smart Tag this evening. Whilst I don’t understand the inner workings of world logistics, I had kind of hoped that the Planet Tag would have achieved a greater distance from it’s start position than the whopping 13 miles it’s currently completed.

The Smart Tag is providing me with regular updates to confirm that it’s “alive and well” which can only mean there are plenty of Samsung using employees within this branch of DHL.

For those that don’t know, the Samsung Tag has no sim card which would normally be found in older tracking devices. It uses a connection with ‘local’ Samsung devices to return data to… “the internet” and somehow by magic, inform me of changes in location.

I hope to provide further updates at some point tomorrow. However as it stands, the results could be deemed to be slightly disappointing, what with the device travelling a mere 13 miles.

However to take a positive from todays report, DHL did what they said they were going to do. Which is of course, a bonus!

***Update – 19:45***

Okay… So it was foolish of me to assume that the Laindon DHL depot would hold on to the Planet Tag overnight. To my surprise, I’ve just received a ping from the device stating that it is currently travelling anticlockwise around the M25 passing the St Albans area.

DHL again exceeding expectations, for now! A reminder to me that DHL work around the clock, whereas I however, do not!

Further updates to come tomorrow.

Matt
